Going Swimmingly in 2013

A few Old Dragons reading this may remember the Dragon swim relays and diving competitions that used to take place in the Cherwell River. In comparison, the school’s current indoor, 6 lane, 25m swimming pool provides over 3 hours per week of competitive training for the Dragon School Swim Squad. The School has been ranked one of the top ten co-educational Prep Schools in the country over the last five years, and has won two English Schools U11 Swimming Trophies.

This year’s IAPS Finals on the 11th May saw 32 Dragons compete in Crawley, with the school winning five medals in the championship for the first time in its history. Two gold medals were won in the U10 Girls Medley Relay (pictured below) and U10 25m Backstroke, followed by two silver medals in the U13 Boys Freestyle and Medley Relay teams. The U10 girls were also joint winners of the U10 Girls IAPS team event – a first in Dragon history. A bronze medal went to the Girls U12 Free Relay team. Seven new school records were also set in the process!

The swim relays and Warin Medley relays are still a traditional part of Dragon swimming and are still providing the school with more fantastic memories that Old Dragons can look back on with pride.
